San Juan Passage
Location: Anacortes, Washington
Scope: Master planning, site planning and landscape architecture
Size: 25 acres
Program: 100 lot single family residential parcels, 4 internal neighborhood view parks, community entry boulevard, pedestrian connections to shoreline trail system
Description: GCH has been involved with this waterside residential community from the early stages of feasibility and master planning through landscape architectural design and the final construction process. Donald Powers provided architectural design. San Juan Passage sits on 25 waterfront acres, with views of the Rosario Strait and the San Juan Islands. Steep slopes on site and 80 feet of vertical drop provide great opportunities for maximizing the spectacular views to the water while creating a challenge to integrate the community within the hillside. Four parks, all interconnected by walking trails, anchor the community plan and have been designed to focus views to the water and islands beyond. Feastures of the waterfront-themed community homes include:
- Each home will be LEED Certified
- Through the National Wildlife Federation the residences will be certified "Back Yard Wildlife Habitat Sites"
Parks will connect to an approved future trail for pedestrians and bicycles that will run from the City of Anacortes to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal
